A List Of Materials Used In A Roof Waterproofing System

Roof waterproofing is an important process for your property. It prevents water from seeping into your home by preventing leaks. There are several types of materials used in the combo waterproofing system. These include single-ply membrane, APP-modified bitumen, and EPDM rubber. You should also pay attention to cracks, holes, and blisters. It would help if you repaired them as soon as possible.

Acrypol scrim:

Acrypol scrim is a flexible mesh used as a waterproofing membrane on flat roofs. Its special properties allow it to move without breaking the watertight barrier, which increases the waterproofing membrane’s tensile strength and mechanical resistance. This membrane is suitable for most roofs, including metal, asbestos, and felt.

Acrypol scrim roof waterproofing is applied to the roof by applying a coating of acrylic resin, which forms a semi-liquid paste. Once dry, Acrypol scrim forms an elastic, tough cover that prevents the passage of water. This membrane is chemically structured so that trapped moisture can evaporate, and its fibers work like a built-in scrim. It also fills cracks up to 10mm wide, resulting in higher tensile strength.

APP modified bitumen:

Modified bitumen roofs are an excellent option for roof waterproofing and offer a variety of advantages over cap sheet or tar and gravel roofs. This type of roofing material is flexible and responds well to changes in temperature. It also features long-term durability, is versatile, and is relatively easy to install. Modified bitumen is also easy to repair if necessary.

Single-ply membrane:

One of the most important steps in installing single-ply membrane roof waterproofing is properly preparing the roof and surface. This will allow the applied liquid membrane to adhere to them properly. To do this, you must clean the roof thoroughly. The surface should be pressure-washed to remove debris, grease, and blemishes. These things can compromise the waterproofing quality and make the roof susceptible to water damage. Next, you must prepare the roof with a primer. This will make the membrane adhere better and prevent bituminous oils from bleeding. Before applying the primer, you should ensure the surface is completely dry and debris-free. If necessary, you can use an air blower or a torches to speed up the drying process.

EPDM rubber:

EPDM rubber is a durable, high-reliability membrane. It will usually require one visit to install. Using silicone is unnecessary since it will not stick to the EPDM. You can use adhesive tape designed specifically for EPDM. For best results, use a primer before applying adhesive tape.
